I am heading the newly established Policy Research Unit (PRU) in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which been established with the support of Asian Development Bank. The PRU comprising of four national experst is mandated with carrying out following activities:

  • Conducting research, reviewing literature/ global best practices with respect to design and implementation of social protection programs.
  • Developing evidence based policy papers on various aspects of ongoing and new interventions of BISP
  • Help in assessment of BISP programs and analyze impacts of existing interventions and develop financially sustainable models to strengthen the existing programs.
  • Serve as a knowledge management and data analytics hub for BISP.

  • I led work on the ‘Livelihoods Protection and Youth Employment Programme in response to COVID-19’, which was jointly developed by ILO/ UNDP to support the Planning Commission, Government of Pakistan. The project focussed on developing recommendations for programs in five key areas of labour market analysis, enterprise resilience, skills development, unemployment insurance and gender analysis, for which development funds were to be allocated by the Planning Commission (PC). My responsibilities include overseeing the work of 6 ILO/ UNDP consultants in the respective areas to develop a comprehensive set of recommendations encompassing all program areas.
  • I have also provided input to the PC in developiung livelihoods strategy for the recently announced Rs. 600 billion development package for 9 districts of Southern Balochistan.
